Default Bulls should sign D'Antoni as an assistant. D'Antoni + Thibs = GOAT coach.

We know Thibs teams always play great defense. The Bulls should bring in Mike D'Antoni for offense. Those two together would be GOAT.

I do think the Bulls need a better offensive minded assistant coach. Not D'Antoni though, as he neither fits our system or works well with others.

Ken Bone, was let go from Washington State. Outstanding coach, bad recruiter. Had the discipline that suits our culture, wont break the bank, and understands how to play mixed-tempo with high efficiency. He's my personal favorite target, but I doubt the Bulls would call him.

Joe Jones is my number two target. Very smart all-around coach, good with fundamentals and shooting. Good with setting up passing lanes that work within any kind of system. I think he would fit well.

I wish we signed Nick Nurse. He's coaching with the Raptors now, and their efficiency has gone up tremendously this year, despite the loss of stat-filling players.

You can bring in asst coaches with great offensive mind but they still need to practice the system with a considerable amt of time and the question is will Thibs allow them to sacrifice his precious defensive drills for this?

The Bulls don't have a single shooting specialist coach. Well, not one that I would consider to be a specialist, just coaches that walk through offensive drills. This team does practice offense as much as defense. Not only that, it's hard to scrimmage with two practice teams both playing defense only against each other. An assistant that actually compliments the culture and system we have in place will go a long way. I don't believe we have that guy on the staff.

Right now, the most offensive minded coach we have, is Adrian Griffin. This staff has no real offense guru on it. And until we have that assistant coach, we can keep signing sharp shooters, and watch their FG %s drop with us, and go back up when they go to another team with a shooting coach.

Really, we're playing very good offensive sets, the actual X and O's part is almost perfect. But that means nothing if a) the shots don't go in, b) the opposing team is okay with giving up open shots to inconsistent players, which leads them to cover more effective scorers better and c) nobody is confident enough in taking the shot, therefore they hide behind screens, leaving the ball handler running around in circles.

I made this thread as a joke but this really would be great. D'Antoni and Thibs could work out great together. One of the best defensive minded coaches along with one of the best offensive minded coaches.

I was going to argue that guys like Korver, Bellineli and Dunleavy's shooting % didn't drop while with the Bulls but.... you are freaking right, yes their % actually dropped.
I think you are right but also Thibs likes to play a slower tempo= less attempts=harder to get into shooting rhythm. I live in Southern Cal and never saw any Bulls practices on video but I find it hard to believe still that Thibs gives enough emphasis on offense. Its almost going to the Dentist experience for him to use scorers/shooters.

Well, if we bring in a true shooting coach, then our % across the board should increase. Even if it's just a small +.005 of a difference, that's a few more wins. Hell, in this series against the Wizards, a few games were determined by a small %, and all but one was closer than it looked at the end when we were playing the desperation/intentional foul game. But I certainly wouldn't expect installing a shooting coach to only help by such a small number. I would expect(with the same players, theoretically) that this team boosts its shooting % into the top 20 in the league, and a few spots among current playoff teams.

The reason why the pieces on the staff are more important than anything else, is because the Bulls have made moves to set a clear tone that they are a scouting team, not a player movement team. But if you have major holes within the staff, you come up short in execution, conditioning, and development. Thibs can not do everything himself.

Case in point, the Bulls signed a dedicated player conditioning doctor this last off-season, after not having one for years(Since 1999 IIRC). And IMO, that tremendously helped the team stay healthy as well as recover from injury. Mind you, Derrick was on his OWN program at that, and he's the only red mark on the argument that specialists help tremendously.
