Default how will Carmelo Anthony be remembered in New York?

will they retire his jersey. Best player since Patrick Ewing in the mecca of basketball, why didn't he inspire a loyal fanbase/following?

Steve Novak is the best Knick since Ewing.

Only New-Yorkers believe NY is still the "Mecca of Basketball". It's like L.A Fans believing everyone still wants to sign to play in LA, it's an outdated point of view for your proud elders

Carmelo went in the playoff once... Hard to sell a place in the Rafters with these kinds of Results. the only tihng worth to hang to the rafters is the bodies of Management people during these years

I can see Knicks retiring Melo's jersey, mainly because of that 62 point game and his high scoring seasons.

As for why he didn't inspire a loyal fanbase/following, it's because he didn't take the Knicks anywhere for most of his years there. When Melo was first traded to New York, lots of people's expectations were that he'd take them to new heights. Knicks were imagined to be competing in the East for years. That means multiple deep playoff runs, and many 50-win seasons. In reality, the Knicks only had 1 50-win season, with the furthest playoff run being a 2nd round appearance, which also happened just once.

2010-11: 14-13 after the Melo trade. Swept by Celtics in the 1st round
2011-12: 36-30 record. 4-1 loss to the Heat in the 1st round
2012-13: 54-28 record. 4-2 losee to Pacers in the 2nd round
2013-14: 37-45. Missed playoffs
2014-15: 17-65. Missed playoffs
2015-16: 32-50. Missed playoffs
2016-17: 31-51. Missed playoffs

As you can see, his time with the Knicks was extremely disappointing.

but other losers like Steve Francis seem to be remembered much more fondly by Houston for instance

Since when is a jersey on a rafter given to journeyman passing through that didn't win shit with you?

Knicks would have to be truly desperate to do so...

He won't be remembered until he retires. Real NY fans are waiting to see what happens next. We have some nice young talent. It's gonna take 2-3 years, so troll away.

Carmelo Anthony doesn't deserve his jersey to be retired by the Knicks. If the Knicks retire his jersey, it means they salute a perenniel loser, then I will lose all my respect to that pathetic organization.

If Melo ends up hitting 30,000, he will have the greater career than any Knick ever, by far, and it's not even close.
