While the Utah Jazz are on a winning streak, it has not come easy due to their lack of a replacement level point guard. The Jazz have been without any of their point guards for a week now. Luckily, relief is in sight.
They've looked better than they have since they let Hill go.

Rudy Gobert’s emergence as the NBA’s best defender has been a franchise changer for the Utah Jazz. After the trade of then-star Deron Williams, the Jazz entered a period of kind of rebuilding and kind of not. They didn’t do well at either until drafting and developing Rudy Gobert. Here’s a couple tweets to show you what I mean.
It's called tanking and Rudy ruined their best layed plans

Since entering the league, the @utahjazz are 161-111 (59%) when @rudygobert27 starts and 59-117 (33%) when he doesn't.

Even before they traded Kanter from mid December until the trade a couple months later they were a different team. One of the worst teams in basketball witout him but keep telling us how great Mitchell, Snyder, Lindsey, Rubio etc. are.

Our offense actually has not been good with Donovan at PG
Donovan himself has been killing it, but the Jazz offense as a whole has been it’s regular bad. Our defense has been stellar though

which is another area where Rubio kills them with his matador D

in effect i think this does work. at least well enough for the jazz to have an average offense even if RR is not a shooter.

yeah, that’s not scientific but it might have some merit.

Posted by RainDanceParty on Jan 15, 2019 | 7:50 PM
an average offense isn't going anywhere

However against Rudy you can not troll or you get a notice of expulsion from the forum, as it has happened to me. Well, that’s a totalitarian policy.

    Posted by Luli73 on Jan 15, 2019 | 12:37 PM
one of the 3 most important people in the franchise's history. why would you troll him?

Replace Gobert with Towns and the offense would maybe get to top 5. But the defense would be somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Minnesota’s defense was bottom 10 last year and is not even in the top half this year – Towns is a big reason why they can’t get it together on that end of the court.

Not sure the offense gets better. Rudy is one of the most effective offensive players in the league

Rudy isn’t the only reason the Jazz are great on defense. They don’t have Thibodeau running a laughably outdated scheme and not teaching the players (up until just recently thank god). They don’t have Derrick Rose and Jeff Teague and Jamal Crawford and whatever other garbage perimeter defenders the Wolves have given Towns to work with. Turnstiles.

Fact is Towns was highly touted defensively when he came into the league, has every imaginable physical tool to play dominant defense, and now that he’s out from under a terrible tyrant of a head coach he’s putting it together. Scheme and fit and personnel can change everything for a player. He would kick ass under Quin.

I’ve actually convinced myself that it would be a net positive to trade Rudy for him. I would guess his career will last significantly longer, he’s extremely durable, never missed a game I don’t think. Not that any of this will happen, it’s just fun to think about, and again I LOVE RUDY GOBERT, he fits the Jazz like a glove, he’s actually my favorite player, I want him around as long as he wants to be around.

They aren't good defensively without Rudy. Even with him they are inconsistent. Rubio is a turnstile

I think he prefers playing pf
But yeah I think him and Rudy would be a better pairing than cousins was

    really?

Our chances of winning a ring would then be on the shoulders of guys like Exum and Crowder. If we don’t believe either of them are ready to handle that or good enough to take them there then we have to go with multiple players. Maybe try to retain Favors and add a guy like Middleton.

Despite the fact that Mitchell has been flying high and the Jazz have won six of their last seven contests, these injuries are anything but good on multiple fronts.
keep telling yourself that. If nothing else maybe the Wizard will get a clue after seeing what we've seen and build around Rudy and Mitchell finally?

    http://saltcityhoops.com/trade-targe...r-deal-coming/

I'd be surprised other than the expiring contracts that won't be back next year and that Quin doesn't like anyway

When the Utah Jazz traded for Kyle Korver back on November 28, it not only signaled a commitment to winning from the organization, but helped to address on of the most glaring weaknesses on the team: shooting. Since Korver joined the Jazz, his ability to shoot the ball has become infectious. The Jazz averaged 31.5 3-point attempts per game and 31.9 percent accuracy on those attempts before the trade. Since then, they are attempting nearly 34 threes per game, and connecting on a whopping 36.7 percent.
They are committed to being mediocre. Traded their 2nd best scoring option in the deal.

It seems as though Hardaway is in a lose-lose situation, because unless he is scoring 25 points a game and leading the Knicks to the playoffs, people are going to view his contract as a massive overpay. In reality, his contract has not been too bad based on his production. In his first two seasons back with the Knicks1, he has averaged 18.4 points per game, and this season, he is scoring 20 points per game, and adding 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists2.
sounds better than paing your back up center the same amount of money to me?

The problem would be justifying the price tag for a potentially reduced role on the Jazz. Hardaway plays 33 minutes a game for the Knicks, but on the Jazz, he would likely be asked to come off the bench, and those minutes would drop to the mid-20s. But it could be worth it, and his final year as an Atlanta Hawk is evidence of why it could work.
Bring a 20 point scorer off the bench on a team desperate for a 2nd option?

What would it take? In order to make any trade, the Jazz will have to worry about matching the incoming players salary. Hardaway is currently slated to make $17.3 million. In order for the Jazz to match that type of money, you are likely going to have to part with either Derrick Favors or Ricky Rubio. If I were the GM, I would lean towards parting ways with Rubio. He has had a very up and down tenure in his time with the Jazz, and both Mitchell and Dante Exum are clearly capable of running the point. In return, you would get another offensive weapon who can carry the offensive load at times.
Favors makes a lot of sense next to Porzingas. Exum isn't clearly capable of running the point though. They might want Exum? They like young pg's that suck. Could do a Thabo, Neto, Udoh, Niang too

What would it take? There have already been reports of the Suns looking to move Warren at the deadline, and the Jazz would only need to match his $11 million/per year salary. Prior to the start of last season, The Suns signed Warren to a 4-year, $50 million extension, so he is in the first season of that deal. Based on his performance over the last two seasons, that is a fantastic contract for an up-and-coming player who is still just 25 years old. The would likely have to part ways with Thabo Sefolosha, and then potentially Grayson Allen to sweeten the pot.
He's only a couple years older than Allen too. Doubt they'd do that though. Suns need a pg. Exum, Rubio or Neto would have to be part of the deal.

[QUOTE]I have always had a soft spot for Otto Porter Jr. And so, it seems, have the Jazz. When former Jazz star Gordon Hayward opted to leave Utah for Boston in the summer of 2017, the Jazz reportedly turned their attention Porter. Of course, by the time Hayward

[QUOTE]The Jazz are back to defending like how we thought and knew they could. Rudy Gobert is once again plopping his name in the DPOY conversation and anchoring this team. Donovan Mitchell has been unstoppable during this stretch, being named Western Conference Player of the Week and still continuing to score in bunches, and at time, at will. Even while missing all three of their point guards to injuries, the Jazz
