Kobe will get his statue first because he will most likely be a lifelong Laker. Athlough Shaq was the guts of the 2000-2002 champs, there is too much bad blood between him and the Buss' to get a statue any time soon.

Kobe will go down with Magic as the two most beloved sports figures in LA, period. And not just basketball. Magic Johnson is still a GOD in LA, and Kobe has already reached that status.

Shaq has actually been very complimentary of the Lakers franchise and Kobe Bryant in recent years. I think he realizes how good he had it in LA, and how different the franchise is from the rest of the ones he played on. You can just tell that he would have done things differently if he could go back in time...

LA fans will go nuts for Shaq when he gets his jersey retired this year. There have been bad feelings, yes, but no one in LA underestimates anything he has done for the franchise. He was amazing, and 2000 Shaq was the most dominant player I have ever seen.

Better than any Jordan, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Dream, or anyone I saw at their peak. 2000 Shaq was the very definition of a BEAST.

Lakers haters don't understand why Lakers fans get mad when they talk about Shaq carrying that team. It's not that he didn't carry them, it's that he wasn't carrying them alone. When you use Shaq as an example to tear down Kobe, us Lakers fans will call you on your bullshit, because it's obvious most people never saw those Lakers teams religiously.

That team was so unstoppable not because it had a good 1-2 punch, it was unstoppable because it had 2 of the top 5 players in the NBA at their PRIME.

And, unlike Wade and Lebron or any other 1-2 punch, the Lakers had it set up perfectly. Get a great big man and get a great wing player. It's like a GM's wet dream.

Clearly kobe, no debate. Funny how the main ones saying shaq are also the main kobe haters. Hilarious. Kobe has spent his entire 16 year career as a laker and means more to the franchise than shaq. No one gives a damn about "stats, dominat player ever, more fmvps, carry another bs, per lol". Kobe kept and even expanded the lakers global popularity over the last ten years. He has broken nearly every laker franchise record possible and makes the organization so much money. By the end of his career he is def gunna challenge magic as greatest laker ever. Shaq left la not mainly bc of the fues with kobe, but bc he was 34 and demanded like 30mil and buss didnt wanna pay that. He and buss dont have the best relationship. Shaq may get a statue, but not before kobe.

Kobe, and it's not even debatable. Stop bringing up stats, because it's irrelevant. No one denies that Kareem is statically "better" than Magic and was with the franchise longer, but who got the statue first? Yeah, Kobe threw a fit and wanted to be traded, but Magic also acted like a bitch and got his coach fired. None of this means anything. A child who was born when Kobe was drafted by the Lakers is nearing graduation now, so throughout their entire life, the Lakers franchise = Kobe Bryant. It doesn't matter how much you hate him, or how ill-advised some of his decisions are. He is the face of the franchise. He's been there his entire career. When people think of this team now they think of Kobe.

The argument over who's "better" is stupid and irrelevant here. Kobe deserves the statue more than Shaq.

Shaq burned every bridge possible on his way out of L.A. to South Beach. He ripped Buss, he ripped Kupchak, the organization, the town, the fans - everything. He continued to take shots blatant and indirectly, at the city and franchise.

He will have his jersey retired , but I don't see him getting a statue anytime in the near future.
