Knicks will easily have a max slot next year if not more. THey'll probably have like $30M. But Durant is a pipe dream. The Knicks are trying to become a 33-37 win team to re-enter free agency next year and pick up more pieces. We are rebuilding. You can't be a 17 win team and approach top tier free agents.

If we did nothing, just re-entered free agency next year as is, we'd get no players just like this year.

The goal is not to make Melo happy. The goal is to try and build some credibility. Stop drinking that old Kool Aid that Dolan brewed - "I'm coming home" and all that shit. Melo isn't winning one for NYC.
