The Philadelphia 76ers selected guard Markelle Fultz from the University of Washington with the first pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm. Fultz is the fourth player in franchise history to be drafted first overall, joining Ben Simmons (2016), Allen Iverson (1996) and Doug Collins (1973).

The Sixers also acquired the draft rights to the 25th overall pick, center Anzejs Pasecniks from BC VEF Riga (Latvia), via Orlando in exchange for a future protected first-round draft pick from Oklahoma City and the lesser of the 2020 second-round pick from Brooklyn or the 2020 second-round pick from New York. The future first-round pick from Oklahoma City will be eligible for conveyance beginning in 2020, and if such pick is not among the first 20 picks, Oklahoma City's 2022 and 2023 second-round picks will instead be conveyed.
