He's 102nd in the league in three pointers taken and 89th in three pointers made, when all the players you've listed are in the top 55. Another key reason is that since Dirk plays on the perimeter, teams don't dare put a big stiff on him since Dirk can blow by them for the layup, so they put smaller but quicker guards on Dirk, which given his height advantage is easier for him.

Excellent analysis of the issue... Dirk generally has a size advantage over those guarding him, so he usually has better looks at the basket than the guards mentioned above. Also, it's important to note that Dirk has worked on his three point shooting quite a bit. He's not a regular big man shooting threes. He plays more like a guard than a big man.

Did you just tell Kobe and Arenas to get their asses in the gym like Dirk? Dirk the guy who just got embarrassed in the first round and now hes out exploring the meaning of life.

1. His name is Sasha, not "sacha"
2. Smush doesn't play on the team
3. You have to trust your teammates if you're going to win games. I like how you left out Odom and his former teammates Atkins and Butler. (where he couldn't even bring them to the playoffs). Yeah, I'd say it's a problem.

But guards are supposed to play like guards. If you are a shooting guard and cannot shoot, how are you going to score against a real zone defense or no BS bail out FIBA refs. There is no room for interpretation of positions.

If the position were called "Long distance shooting guard" maybe this clear spin on the Dirk issue would make sense. But it isnt. In fact...not a single one of the players considered the best swingmen ever were outside shooters more than slashers and midrange shooters. Jordan, Kobe, Gervin, Wade, AI, Lebron, King, Oscar, Nique, and Baylor. All slashers and midrange guys. Even guys like Bird, West, and Barry who are all considered premier all time shooters....all were slashers and midrange shooters first. Bird in the post aswell. West actually has the single season record for FTs made. Barry even with a great outside shot only made 173 threes in his career and thats including 4 seasons in the ABA with the line and one in the NBA. Lebron made 126 in 06 alone. Bird never made 100 in a season.

Of the 24 swingmen in the top 30 all time in 3 point percentage only four of them were ever all stars. Wally S, Alan Houston, Dale Ellis, and Jeff Hornacek. Good players. Great? Hell no.

Only 3 people(at any position) in the top 35 all time in threes made ever won a title. Gary Payton who won as a role player, Antione Walker also on the Heat, and Billups at 34. Pippen, Ainge, and Dumars are the only others on the list till you get to #60 and Clyde Drexler who won on a team that won it the year before without him. Thats 5 people in the top 60 with a title. 30 of the top 65 scorers period have titles.

Outside shooting and success have never been so tied together as to assume you need one for the other.

A guard playing like a guard doesnt mean he jacks up threes. If its the great guards we are talking about...it generally means he gets to the basket and makes midrange jumpers.

A bigman playing like a bigman doesnt necessarily means he plays in the post. But if its the greatest bigmen we are talking about...it pretty much does.

I read the OP twice, and I seriously can't understand what he's trying to say. Do they teach our youth English anymore?
