Default Signature defenses. Where are they?

We had the all timer Ravens in 2000, they reloaded and were a dominant defense for basically Rays entire career.

The Bucs defense in the early 2000s was amazing

The early Pats

The Bears in the mid 00s was nasty.

The Polamalu Steeler defenses

Legion of boom

Dawkins and Jimmy Johnson's Eagles

Patrick Willis' 49ers

Are the Jags next in line? Probably. They did almost give away the Steelers playoff game and they did give up a big lead to the Pats. If you're a great defense with big leads it should be signed sealed and delivered.

Feels like a weak period for these kind of defenses.

Watch football, the league is not allowing defenses to be physical

Legion of boom didn't have any issues.

The LOB died years ago

There’s new rules every year making the league softer

Everything is a penalty now. You aren't even allowed to put a HIT on a QB anymore. Sissy up the league.

Take away Kam's ability to put the fear of god into the skill players on the other team, and I'm not so sure. Game has changed a lot since 2013.

What rules have changed from when the Legion of boom were still dominating (2016)

Besides the new qb rule you still couldn't hit ppl across the middle. It's been like that for a long time.

I don't remember the seahawks 2016 version being any more dominant than the Jags or even the Eagles last year. They were good, but they got thrashed by Carolina in the 1st half of that playoff game. I know Russ was stinking up the joint but the Panthers didn't punt until 2 minutes to go in the first half and worked some long scoring drives. I think you're being a little too critical in your judgement of the defenses today.

It has changed. The game is just played differently. Targeting and helmet rules have been changing every offseason. It's just not gonna be the same kind of deterrent to throw over the middle anymore. That's what made Kam special. He's still a great football player without being able to knock somebody into next tuesday, dont get me wrong.

Bears have the chance to develop into one if they can get high end talent on the back end. Fuller is good but can't catch. Create some INTS regularly from the pass rush, I think they will be with JAX as the best candidates

The most impactful rule change was the defensive holding rule (a rule that was created as a direct response to the seahawks running train on your boy Peyton in the superbowl)

The Seahawks went from allowing 14.4 points and 273 yards per game in 2013 to allowing 18.2 points and 320 yards in 2016.

I don't know about that. The site that tracks penalties claims more def holding penalties were called I'm 2015 than 2016. They're not exactly high now either, within the same range as years past.

JAX defense may not be who we thought they were.

Well... You win some, and you look like a real big idiot sometimes. Wish I could go back and just not post in this thread

I feel like defensive penalties isn't the right metric for understanding the impact tho. The adjustments that defensive players have had to make to *not* get called for these penalties is why it's so difficult to have a dominant defense.
