Yep he was. He had a noticeable receding hairline. it's one of the reasons he shaved it all off.
Consequently he made fashionable with other NBA players.

haha i wasnt aware MJ did the faux straight hairline in the 80s with the buzzer that most black players do today. did he start that trend as well?
