Default Was WS, points, steals, VORP, BPM, game winners, all good stats untl

LBJ passed MJ in all of them?

So when MJ had the records it was cool but then LBJ passed him and it's "well it's not THAT good!"

VORP isn’t a bad stat. Like WS though it’s cumulative. WS/48 is better than just WS though. I doubt you’d get much pushback citing WS/48. There’s no “average “ for VORP though. It rewards longevity which is fine, just some folks have different criteria (ie, highest peaks etc)

BPM is largely dependent on box score impact. It’s decent but it’s absolutely useless for factoring in defense. Marcus Camby rates out higher than KG in DBPM but only an idiot would say his defensive impact was greater. It’s largely just due to his blocks

I don’t recall anyone saying points are bad. That makes no sense lol. Steals has always been a hot topic but that’s only if folks use them to say someone’s a better defender, which ties back into BPM and defense. More blocks and steals don’t necessarily make for more defensive impact

WS, points, and steals are based on games played, while MJ did more in those categories per game (ppg, spg, ws/48)

BPM includes DBPM, which simply counts steals, blocks, and defensive rebounds - this is why bird has higher regular season DBPM than Pippen, and nearly equal in playoffs.

Regarding game-winners - lebron's frequency of game-winners is poor compared to Mike (Bron needed more games), and Lebron's game winners are low leverage/importance (none late in the series or the championship)

    Hope that helps

Otoh, MJ's stats show him doing the most per game (PPG, SPG, WS/48), and also a greater constant rate of domination (PER, usage, offensive rating/efficiency),vwhile hitting all the highest leverage game-winners

No we're rewarding him for winning 6

    Winning Finals > making them

Making them without winning them means the Finals appearance was conference-dependant (wouldn't have occurred from the other conference, since you couldn't beat that conference in the Finals)

MJ won 6 rings in 11 seasons played (minus Wizards years, injury yr, baseball comeback yr)... And yes - no one counts his wizards years when he was 39 yrs old

You heard it here folks. Getting to the finals is now better than winning in the finals.
