The love for this guy is ridiculous. What has he done to prove he is one of the all time great point guards? Dude has no MVPs, has never made it out of the second round, averages around a 19/9 for his career, sure he's very skillful and a good defender but at the end of the day he's never been able to elevate his teams to the next level in the way Lebron did in Cleveland, Durant does, Westbrook does, etc..

Losing to Memphis in 6 last year was a total embarrassment, If he was so MVP caliber he could ****ing make up for Griffin getting whomped by Z-Bo or Vinny being an awful coach. I can't wait till the stacked Clippers with Doc lose yet again so Paul is finally exposed. Yeah he's one of the top ten players in the league but people act like he's already up there with the likes of the all-time great PGs.

To me he's just one of those players who some people will hype to death because they don't like Rose. Without Kobe and then Rose he would be considered jsut another PG but throughout his career haters of those players have always needed to pump up another player to put those players down. Because he played for small markets they pick him since they know he won't do any damage to their own team, so they've always made excuses and statistics to try to justify him, but anyone with half a brain can see he never accomplished a thing. It's also alarming how much Lebron fans and CP fans overlap which basically means they are looking for someone to say "LEbron is this much better than kobe or Rose, they aren't even better than CP." its a interesting psychological phenomenon because in reality there is nothing he does better than those players and his playoff record speaks for itself

Off the top of my head 5+ HOF points can say the same of teams they were the best player on. Plenty of those who had a lot of success were #2. Not Pauls fault nobody on his team has ever been better than he is. Unless you consider than hes been an elite player for years and teams rarely have two.....

You say that like it isnt impressive. There isnt a single pointguard who puts up 19ppg for his career has been retired 5 years and isnt in the HOF. And hes at 9.8 assists...3rd all time behind Magic and Stockton. You know there are HOF points who average HALF of 9.8 for their careers?

There is a long list of HOF points who never did what Paul has as their teams leader. Just so happens a lot of them landed on teams they could get a career boost from by being in someones supporting cast. Tiny with Bird, Pistol Pete never winning a series till the Celtics, Lenny Wilkens having Pettit, Cousy never winning even with 2 other all NBA first teamers till Russell showed up, and on and on and on it goes. Not like Oscar robertson won anything before Kareem. He led 30 something win teams multiple times with other HOF players in their primes with him.

Point guards have traditionally been asked to support someone else not make a team great.

Of those asked to do it the only ones who won anything were guys like Magic who had all the talent in the world and were more than traditional points.

Chris Paul is a first ballot hall of famer and has to do nothing else to make that happen. Making the WCF wouldnt be an accomplishment anyone would remember or care about anyway.

Paul Westphal led a finals team and nobody even knows who that is unless they remember him coaching.

Nobody is gonna look backand praise Deron Williams for making a WCF when Baron outplayed him and Carlos Boozer beasted down low to get them there. He goes 1-11 for 2 points with 7 assists and 5 turnovers to knock out the Warriors and goes to the WCF. So hes made it past the second round....

Why is it embarrassing to lose to memphis? Memphis started 4 STUD defenders and Griffin was gimpy. Clips had no shooting too which is why they got reddick and dudley.

Currently he's a litttle overated due to his reputation.

But before his major injury in 2009 he really was that good. He had amazing athleticism back then and of course he has the skills (vision, long range shooting, handles, good defensive anticipation). He was a smarter Iverson with great vision and better defense.

Funny you say that. This is the guy who shot 5-21 with 7 turnovers in a do or die situation with Z-Bo destroying Ibaka (even though Ibaka played decent on the offensive side). The score was actually 84-86 and Durant missed an open 16 footer to end the game. CP3 went 11/16 for 28 points, 8 assists, and 0 turnovers in his last game against the Grizzlies.

And how has Westbrook proven to elevate his team without another future hall of famer in his prime? He's played with Durant his whole career. Give Westbrook the Blakes of the world and it'll be pure comedy genius. Give CP3 Durant and the Thunder has a better chance at beating the Heat.

The true overrated players are Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan.

Absolutely not. Only PG I've seen play who I would say is at a different level than Peak Chris Paul was Peak Magic Johnson(I have not seen enough of big O so I won't comment on that). He's in the conversion with the next tier: Nash, Kidd, Stockton, Thomas etc..
