Default US olympic team now tied with Argentina, anyone still think they have a shot vs 92?

anyone think the 92 would have any difficulty at all in blowing out the 2012 olympic team?

lol at thinking a team that lives on jumpers could beat a team with beasts in the paint and the greatest player of all time. Just talk a step back and remember how good David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and Karl Malone were....

Yep, this was the first and most obvious argument I (and many) used at the time to totally debunk the notion that the 2012 would have any shot.

The 92 dream team is the best basketball team ever assembled and most likely the best fielded team of all time. They were the most complete basketball team of all time. They had no weakness. Best frontcourt of all time (the 2012 team doesn't even have the best NBA frontcourt at the present time), best backcourt of all time, best combo/wing players of all time, some of the best defenders of all time, some of the best shooters of all time, the list goes on.

every game that the US barely manages to win and is incredibly close down the stretch, especially considering how big of a talent/experience/skill difference exists between the US and Argentina.

the world was much farther behind in 92

I think the 12 team is appreciably better than these international teams, but it's not like all of these squads are featuring scrubs 1-12

there's a different mentality in the international game as well...every guy is afraid to take his shots and play selfishly (well, except Melo), to the extent that their offenses are going to be a wash with the other top international squads featuring 2-3 all-star caliber players; there's a huge gap between the US and the rest of the world defensively, but with only one true big in the rotation (two if you count Davis, but he hasn't logged heavy enough minutes to make a huge difference), you have to play your defense on the perimeter (which isn't ideal)

for the record I don't know which team would win in a seven-game series, but neither squad would be truly outclassed

That makes no sense. Why on earth would "guys be afraid to take his shot and play selfishly?". I don't even see what your talking about people are taking their shots as they come to them.

The US should be dominating every team in the tournament. The 7th, 8th and 9th best players on the US team would easily be the best 1,2 and 3 players on any team in the tourny, especially Lithuania

Euroleague existed back in 92 like it does back there. There were talented international players back then in Divac, Drazen, Kukoc back then as well. Regardless of whether what you said is true or not (it's not) the US would still wipe the floor with this 2012 team.

You start by stating that international play was "farther behind" in 92 yet make no argument for the 2012 team even having a shot against the 92.

The US has now played two close games in a row, the 92 team never faced a deficit during the entire tournament, the 2012 team was down by 10 against Lithuania

Keep in mind that the comp now is much much much more stringer then it was in 92.

A locked in Jordan and Pippen is locking down whoever needs to be locked down on the perimeter. D-Rob would put the clamps on Scola while causing havoc out there. Barkley would be throwing Argentines around like rag dolls. Guy would manhandle Scola. It would be bad. Especially if they somehow pissed off Barkley, Malone or Jordan. Argentina would get outrebounded by so much.

What the **** does that have to do with anything I said you really want me to compare teams like likth/argentina/spain ect with the shit teams the the 92 teams faced? You don't think our current team could not achieve playing against shit teams back in 92 and not face any deficit? I do 92 had no international teams with talent.

Jordan didn't ever lock in 92 so why are you expecting him to do so in 2012 against way better teams?
