Default What are the "supposed duties" of small forward?

I am not spamming. I don't have much time to post on weekdays, hence post as much as possible on weekends.
My question is regarding supposed duties of small forward. I know the duties of 4 other positions. PG is to distribute the ball, SG is to make shots all over the floor, PF to score and grab boards, and C to block shots, and grab boards.
But as for SF, I don't have clear idea on what SF is supposed to perform on the floor. Is SF supposed to pass, rebound, score, block, steal the ball or pretty much do everything?
Is there a definition of what SF is supposed to perform during the game?
There are some high-scoring SFs like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Richard Jefferson but other SFs seem to not score much.

to be randomly selected and compared to Scottie Pippen for no reason other than the fact they play SF

it's IMO the least differentiated position of the all. it's the reason why the SFs are dime a dozen. you've got the scoring ones, defensive specialists, shooting specialists, all around guys, infamous "point forwards" (no don't start that again) and so on...also many of them are interchangeable with SGs (seems to be more and more of a trend nowadays).

you've also got "tweener forwards" which is most cases means that guy stinks both in SF and PF role despite having forward size:)

One common thread between all kinds of small forwards is an ability to "get to the line", that is have opposing players called for committing shooting fouls against them, as fouls are frequently called on the defense when offensive players "take the ball hard" to the basket, that is, aggressively attempt post-up plays, lay-ups, or slam dunks. Therefore, accurate foul shooting is an imperative skill for small forwards, many of whom record a large portion of their points from the foul line.

Defense is often a major priority for small forwards, who are often counted on using their athleticism and size as defensive advantages. Many small forwards are excellent defensive players including current NBA player Ron Artest, who is generally regarded as one of the best defensive players in the league today. Shawn Marion of the Phoenix Suns and Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons who with their length and athleticism are able to guard any position on the floor and is often called upon to do so. Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs, while not a star offensive player, is a masterful and tenacious defender, both on the perimeter and closer to the hoop. Former small forwards known for their defensive abilities include Scottie Pippen, one of the best one-on-one defenders in the NBA for most of his career.

A shooting forward has to be able play both inside and outside effectively.

The other four positions really don't. PF and C are supposed to play inside, and SG and PG are supposed to play outside.

Of course, nowadays its all jumbled, but traditonally that's what it was....

the duty of a 3 is to be at least 6'6 and still relatively quick. if you fail to meet that duty, you better make it up 2 fold some other way.

there is no duty to be a specific type of offensive player. you just have to be able to defend the other team's small forward. if you are on the right team, or playing the right team, a 3 might be able to get away with only being able to defend the opponent's 2 guard or less commonly, their power forward, but that just means someone else is doing the small forward's duty.
