    Default Raptors future

In recent nba history I have not seen a teams overall outlook change for the better in such a quick and dramatic way.
Other than the bargs pick and bcs refudsal to admit the mistake, colangelo actually drafted quite well.

In comes ujiri and he flips gay for solid bench pieces in Vazquez, Hayes, Patterson and eventually sweet Lou.

Even more miraculously he flips bargs for a future first from the knicks. With the current struggles of the knicks and nuggets it seems quite possible that it could be a high lottery pick in 2016.

Combine that with some strong continuity, growing fan base, young and still improving players, solid cap siyuation, and the 2016 allstar game and this team looks poised to be near the top of the eastern conference for years to come.

    Thoughts?

It's obvious they will be very solid in upcoming years. The main question remains, will they be able to contend ?

They need one of two things to contend. A star free agent signing and or a great draft pick from the knicks/nuggets. Or package two first rounders and asset for star.

Raps do have lots of options. As for now a turning into a perennial 50 win team is pretty good.

You don't win shit in the NBA without a Super Star, and they don't have one.

The double tax situation isn't going to make it any easier to acquire one either.

We'll see how long they stay on top when the rest of their pathetic division (Boston, Philly, New York, New Jersey) starts getting better over the next few seasons.

Lowry has to stay healthy and driven. Then DeRozan, the same as Lowry. Then Valanciunas has to get himself together within few years.

Growing through their own draft picks is probably the best and only choice for the true success.

I really like this team...NOW. Lowry is already 29 and probably has 3 years left of elite ball. DeRozan is a great #3 for a championship team, maybe a #2 if he can improve his shooting a bit more and up the defensive intensity. Patterson and A. Johnson are great pieces, but they are not good enough to win a chip with on their own. T. Ross is solid but I think SF is where they can make a huge impact at. Valanciunas is the key to whether they become elite or not. If he really throws it down the next two seasons they only need 1 piece added.

something in the back of my head keeps hinting at me about something like an 8th man making an impact the way Walton mattered late in his career.

For the most part, yes. It has happened, though.
