Default Houston better or worse with Battier over Gay?

Are the rockets better off or worse off with Rudy Gay? Would having a legit 3who can put the ball in the hoop help their chances of getting out of the 1st round? Granted we dont know how far he would have developed as a Rocket but he shows he can score. I think with the injuries Yao and T-Mac are always sustaining, he would help fill the scoirng void when one went down. But Battiers intangibles cannot be measured and was a big reason for their 22 win streak. But I think it might be more useful to have another scorer for the duo of T-Mac and Yao

I would have much rather had Gay over Battier. Battier is a hustler but cannot create for himself offensively.. whereas Gay would help T-Mac tremendously in the 4th quarter where T-Mac is expected to score himself every time down the court. (Reffering to series against Jazz) But yes, Battier was a crucial part of the 22 game win streak.. but I would prefer Rudy over Shane.

Rudy would not have been able to excel because we already had 2 top 10 players in the league. We needed a defensive stopper and good role player and that's why we got Battier.

Worse.

I'm not a Rudy Gay fan, but Battier is overrated as hell. He is a decent defender and an positive teammate, but he is by no means the great defender and superb hustler some people are calling him.

People saying he's one of the top defenders in the league. SMH.

If they had kept Rudy Gay they would never make the playoffs seeing that he is one of the worst defensive players in the league today.

I think Houston is better with Battier over Gay. I hardly ever see Battier miss those corner 3 pointers. He's a good defender + spot up 3 point shooter - A piece where almost all championship teams have.

This might sound funny to some people, but I don't think Houston needs a 3rd scorer. Houston just need to keep Yao and Tmac healthy. Almost everyone on the Rockets team is a 3 point shooter, other than deke, scola, and landry. Scola is a versatile 4, while Landry is also very active. Therefore, they would not be a liability when Yao gets doubled. They will create their own openings. If not, the floor has 3 other 3 point specialists. Yao just needs to pass the ball. Same thing applies to Tmac. He needs to stop taking so much ill-adviced J's and start driving and kicking.

Just my 2 cents...

If they didn't trade Gay, I don't think Gay would have developed so fast at this point and he might be considered a huge disappointment because there will be less opportunity for him to experiment and do whatever he wishes with Yao and T'Mac around

I agree that they need to stay healthy, but one factor for me is the fact that they have yet to prove they can stay healthy and I doubt that they ever will. That is why i think this team needs another offensive player who can compensate for the loss of one of the 2. On paper, this team has all the pieces IMO. But I highly doubt they can stay healthy
