Not a good example seeing as Tony's overpaid. One of the rare mistakes from the Spurs front office. They should have waited one more year on Parker. Could have resigned him for cheap after the terrible season he's having this year.

Re: Would you give Kawhi Leonard the max?
would i give it to him? yes.
Is he worth it? no, but Spurs need to retain a cornerstone for their next rebuild.
Should he get the max? if you go by the market value set by other wings, then I don't even see how this is debatable.
Not every player is WORTH the max. But their value might very well be, two entirely different things.

I think you are right, this reminds me of the Ariza deal from a few years back.
Ofcourse Kawhi is much better than Ariza but I hate the Parsons comparison bec I think Cuban would pay dearly for it esp if Ellis goes to another team.
Utah will suffer too.

I only witness a few where a team overpay a certain player and it works out for the most of the lifeline of that contract. I think Deandre Jordan was one of them.
That's the thing, teams overpay players to get them and teams do the same so they can keep them. At the time it makes sense but after that , most of the time, teams regret it. Just look at the Brooklyn Nets.
The only good thing is nowadays max is like 5 years to keep your own player and 4 years to get someone. Teams are not paralyzed like it used to be.

Shame on you for lumping Kyrie "55 on Dame Lillard" Irving in with guys like Hayward and Parsons!

After watching couple games, I don't think he's worth the max.
His offense is not good at all.

Hell no imo.
Leonard is not a superstar, he's barely even a star.

The current max will be really good value for him in 2 years, barring injuries.

Re: Would you give Kawhi Leonard the max?
If you are a team like the Spurs you sign him to the max no question as his defense and rebounding is elite and he gives a scoring boost, his impact on that team is undeniable.
Any other team? Hell no. Especially not one where you expect him to be a first option. If you are already strapped financially and needed a missing piece, like the Clippers, Id offer him the max though.
