Yup the 90's were a weak era. Not only the factors you listed, but also the ending of careers of some of the greatest players in league history (ie Magic, Bird, Isiah) The new millenium has really brought a change in the NBA.

This thread was actually right, in my opinion. 2008-2013 was a better era all-around than 2003-2008. The best players were just as good, but the key difference is that the were no longer rotting on poor teams. And the Finals were on a completely different level. Series like 2010, 2011 and 2013 were memorable, suspense-filled and featured a ton of HOF players. This season it seems like it's on a down trend again (time will tell), but the past five years have been great.
