Relax, I was just joking about Lebron. This is more of a reaction to Duncan and Russell sometimes being underrated because they didn't always have the stats, but their teams were winning or contending every year. Same goes for Magic on occasion.

Some guys have the numbers, but their team doesn't go anywhere. Maybe their team just sucks, or maybe their numbers aren't really helping the team. Dantley might be an example of the latter, although he did seem to help the Pistons until he and Isiah started feuding.

Dantley for four years in a row on Utah averaged about 30.6 on around 57% (just eyeballing it), and Utah won 28, 25, 30 and then finally, 45 games.

His scoring was outstanding on high efficiency, which ISH just loves. But man did the Jazz blow for three of those years.

Absolutely, but because this is a team sport & that is the greatest accomplishment a team can have, using that as #1 priority for valuating an individual player is faulty.... but using that to value a team/roster is very proper.... why? Because the best team will always win the championship, not the best individual player....

So does a championship matter at all for an individual players greatness? Absolutely, but in terms of only context...... what did the player do? what was his role? what did he have to work with around him? what was his competition? what type of talent was he? was he the best player on that team? was he the best player in the NBA? impact? productions? domination? talent/skill on both ends? leadership? etc.

Because of that, there can be twists, for a hypothetical example:

Player A averages 50-25-5 & takes the worst supporting cast in NBA history to the Finals and loses in Game 7 against Player B beneath.

Player B averages 15-20-3 & takes the most stacked cast in NBA history to the Finals and wins.

So its up to you to decide who was better....

Rings are the most important to a team, but context, the substance, the journey is the most important to a player.
