You're not taking into account that the only thing running through many western players minds during the playoffs those years was "what's the point when I'm facing MJ in the finals"

His presence in the league alone negatively impacted their post season play in games where he wasn't even in the building. He was that imposing. Knowing that no matter how hard you try, your ass isn't winning it and it's because MJ has already decided that you aren't going to win. How do you think it made those guys on that list feel?
