this lakers team just isn't good. their defense is bad. dwight's not playing like dwight. most of their roster is trash. this is not a team capable of playing anything close to .800 ball for extended periods .

-Kobe gets 6+ ast per game until Nash returns.

I agree, but that's pretty much what this means. Now, with a healthy Nash and Gasol, and 100% Howard, I don't think them playing roughly .750 ball is out of the question, but how many games will they get all of that over their final 58? 40? More? Less?

If they play .800 ball over their next 50 games, they'd be 50-24; and even if they won those last 8 games to get to 58-24, it still probably won't be enough for the one-seed and maybe even the two-seed. And that's best case scenario.

Doesn't really matter, though. If everyone gets healthy and they start peaking heading to the playoffs, they'll be a very legit threat to win it all in my opinion. Or at the very least a really, really tough out..

Gasol won't be any more motivated.
Kobe won't just play better D or shoot less.
Danthoni is still the coach and their bench/defense will still be below average.
Westbrook, Parker, CP3, Durant will still own them.

They should just aim for the matchup that likely suits them when it gets down to it. The priority for the lakers right now should be to make the playoffs. The top 4 for the west could very likely be a mix of SAS, OKC, LAC and MEM.... lakers should pick the team that suits and force the matchup.

This is all assuming, of course, they make the playoffs and have a chance to pick their poison.
