Obama's second term has to be one of the greatest comebacks in history. This is some Michael Jordan level clutchness

and props to Hillary Clinton and John Kerry for hammerin this shit out. Some Pippen and Rodman level contributions

    That is all.
Americans know absolutely nothing about the people of Iran outside of what's on Wikipedia and when the supporters of the hardliners do their Death to America thing.

True, but is that their (Americans) fault? It's not like there's been channels of cultural exchange in our lifetimes.

I had an Iranian classmate in dental school. Nice guy, smart. Our senior year I asked him what he was going to do and he said he was moving back to Iran with his American wife. When I suggested that life might be better in the US he matter-of-fact said "America is Great Satan," like a mantra that was ingrained in his head. And this was coming from someone I considered an intelligent, rational individual. I can only imagine what the true hardliners are like.

Iran, like all ME countries, intentionally keep their population stupid and brainwashed so that they never figure out what is really going on.

When I was in Afghanistan, we escorted these old ass Russian water trucks filled with JP8 diesel fuel that were driven by Afghan civilians. They used to paint shit on their trucks, like rivers and planes and mountains and trees (which looked nothing like Afghanistan).

So one day, we asked them, 'what are you painting on the sides of your trucks?' They told us it was their idea of 'heaven', as sort of a protection against bullets and IED's ( ).

Until we ruined their fantasy and said 'No, dude, thats America. That's Denver and Gatlinburg.' They didn't believe us, until we showed them pictures. Then we showed them scenes from The Hangover of Las Vagas and pictures of NY and LA. They couldn't understand what they were looking at.

Just stupid people. Never had a chance in life.

There's a strange duality to Iran. There are plenty of people like your old classmate, but don't underestimate the number of Iranian people who genuinely love the west. Maybe around 1/3rd. At least, it's more prevalent than anywhere else in the vicinity other than Israel.

Strange that those 2 countries would have the most West friendly populations. We live in strange times.

I guess I just disagree with your updated assessment. Arms Control experts are calling this the most intrusive inspections ever negotiated with a sovereign country and a model for future agreements.

There's a lot of deliberate misinformation floating around about this deal, but when the proposed agreement was first announced a while back people were saying this looks really good, but let's see what stays in the real deal. Then when the real deal was announced, they say, wow, it's pretty much all still in place.

    This happened last month:
I mentioned that groups were running millions of dollars in advertising against this deal. One of those groups is United Against Nuclear Iran. The head of that group quit because he found after reading the deal and talking to scientists, that it's a really good deal.

[QUOTE]When the bipartisan advocacy group United Against Nuclear Iran decided last week to mobilize opposition against the nuclear deal with Tehran, Gary Samore knew he could no longer serve as its president.

[B]The reason: After long study, Mr. Samore, a former nuclear adviser to President Obama, had concluded that the accord was in the United States

The reason he believes it's in the US interests is there is value in delaying Iran. If diplomacy and the deal from diplomacy fails, the military option is still there, but delay can help bring about a moment where what the Iranian leadership wants changes.

[QUOTE]A group of former top military officials and intelligence analysts released a new report Wednesday concluding that the nuclear deal with Iran will threaten American interests and increase the probability of military conflict in the Middle East.

In its report, the Iran Strategy Council wrote that the nuclear deal, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),

Am I surprised that a report bankrolled by the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs does not use one single line in 10 pages of text to take into account the destabilizing effect of Israel's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs on the region. No. No I am not.
