    How about comparing them by age instead?

    17th season KAJ, 38-39 years old: 23.4 ppg, all-NBA 1st team and top 5 in MVP voting. Even in his 18th season KAJ averaged 18 ppg.

    It'll be blown off as nothing because Kobe >>>> MJ, therefore it's expected.

    Jordan lost 2 seasons due to retirement and was a star in College. Where is Kobe's National Title or Naismith award? Nice worthless 17th season Kobe. How about those additional 4 MVP awards?

    Kobe how does my ass taste?

    Age, brah... age.

    Jordan = 39 years old in his 15th season
    Kobe = 35 years in his 17th season

    We can't compare a 35 year old Jordan against a 35 year old Kobe because MJ wasn't in the NBA at that age. Obviously, we can't compare a 39 year old Jordan against a 39 year old Kobe. So, the best thing we can do is go one year back:

    Jordan when heas 34 years old:

    * Averaged 28 PPG
    * Won his 5th MVP
    * Won his 6th title
    * Won his 6th FMVP

    Kobe when he was 34 years old:

    * Averaged 27 PPG
    * Swept by the Spurs in the first round

    It wasn't impressive because of the amount of seasons, it was because of age. We can spin all we want about the seasons he was 'retired' serving as 'rest' or whatever, 40 is 40. Karl Malone averaged 20 at 39, so it's not unprecedented.

    As for Kobe, scoring 20+ after 19 seasons wouldn't be the impressive part. Scoring it after the kind of injury he had would be. Kobe's skillset is so advanced that given enough minutes 20 ppg next season shouldn't be a problem. I'm predicting 22,5,5 on 45% in 32 mins a night on the low end, as much as 25ppg on 43% high end.

    a little misleading because Kobe came into the league so early...and didn't have much wear on him early actually.

    In his first 3 seasons combined, Kobe started only 57 games. There is virtually no wear and tear on an 18 to 20 year old doing that...while not playing a key role either.

    This is where Kobe's longevity gets over-rated and inflated.
