Looks like a stroke to me. He's only 71, but he reminded me of my elderly grandfather who had dementia.

My grandfather had dementia.

On the opposite spectrum, I had an amazing conversation with this woman in her late 80s several years ago. She was so sharp and intelligent, I thought she was decades younger than she actually was. She had seen so much in life, and never stopped training engaging her mind. She was a part time professor at that time, but also enrolled in classes that she was interested in. I firmly believe that you have to treat your brain like any other muscle. Keep learning and challenging it, it will keep you young.
