The 6'5 1/2" claim is from Dr. J himself.
When I was a freshman in high school I was maybe 5'9", 5'10". And as a sophomore, 5'11", approaching 6'. As I junior I was 6'1", and when I graduated high school I was 6'3". When I got out of college, I was 6'5-1/2", pushing 6'6".

I don't see anything particulary hard to believe about that especially since he was listed at 6-7 in the 80's. Also if a 6-5 guy is going to lie about his height, why lie at a figure like 6-5 1/2? Besides why would a 6-5 guy lie about his height in the first place now that he's not playing anymore. It's not a case of a guy not knowing his height either because Dr. J remembers his height at certain ages.
Dr. J has about a half inch on Michael Jordan who was measured at exactly 6'4 7/8"(pretty much 6'5")

So? Barkley's sneakers have maybe a half inch advantage over Magic's dress shoes, if that. It's not like Magic is walking around barefoot! Barkley and Magic look very close in height in that picture, there's NO WAY there's a 2 1/2" difference.
Maybe there's a half inch difference, add another half inch or so for Barkley's possible footwear advantage and that puts Barkley at 6'6".
Besides Barkley having a footwear advantage is only speculation anyway.
If you wan`t to compare Dr J`s height with Barkley`s then here you go watch this game and see for yourself:

Re: Real NBA Height
I posted pictures of Barkley barefoot next to Kenny Smith and pictures of Barkley's mugshot where he stood right near a height chart. It doesn't get any better for comparing than that.
6'5 3/4" without shoes, 6'7" with shoes

Re: Real NBA Height
Barkley says he is around 6`5 with shoes on. He has been measured at 6`4 3/4 before and in the 92 Olympics at 6`4 5/8 ft (Magic is also closer to 6`7 1/2 than 6`9...Go Look at him stand next to Bird and see for yourself).
He is not 1.98 which is 6`6...He is 1.95 mt
Go look at Barkley next to Rodman who is around 6`6 3/4 and see for yourself.

Why in the hell don't people use the metric system? It's 10 times more accurate than the stupid English system. Also I've seen Yao in person once and i can honestly say that I very much doubt that he's only 7-5. I would really think that's a low ball figure.
