They gave the trophy to Norris Cole in 2012 when he was the new guy on the team. It's not like this is something totally new.

Maybe you're just cynical because it's the Heat? If the Mavs made it to the Finals and handed the trophy to Vince Carter (a guy who has been through a lot of ups and downs in his own right) would it be such a horrible thing?

His teammates were so happy for him they let him receive the trophy and hold on to it during the entire presentation. No one else touched it. Nice gesture by the Heat.
