Players who SHOULD HAVE been Finals MVP
aside from dennis rodman in 1996 and pau gasol in 2010, the obvious, who do you think was robbed of a finals mvp?
here are a couple:
- kevin garnett in 2008 (had a better DRTG and more win shares than pierce)
- manu in 2005 (duncan was great, but manu had a higher ORTG, shot a higher percentage and hit the biggest shots/quarters when the spurs desperately needed buckets)
- cornbred maxwell in 1982 (bird hit the big shots in that series, was the best playmaker and all-around player BY FAR)
what other names come to mind?

Re: Players who SHOULD HAVE been Finals MVP
maxwell in 1981*
also, did jerry west really deserve finals mvp despite the lakers losing? maybe one of the old timers on here can elaborate.

big time kobe stan
Re: Players who SHOULD HAVE been Finals MVP
Pau Gasol in 2009. I believe he shot 58 percent in that series, straight up dominating prime Dwight Howard.

Re: Players who SHOULD HAVE been Finals MVP
Gasol in 2009 and 2010 no debate
Led in rebounds field goal percent and blocks
Led in win shares in 2010

good choice. he actually had a higher ORTG and DRTG than kobe in that series. crazy.
does anyone know his efficiency rating or winshares in that series?
also, my op should read larry bird in 1982. i feel he was robbed, not maxwell.

You setting yourself up here....
There are various articles out there claiming Rodman was the FMVP, Roundball posted them before... Also, for starters, GEORGE KARL HIMSELF, said Dennis Rodman was the MVP of that series..

"Michael Jordan was the MVP of this Final," Jackson said. "Everybody had their moments. But Michael was consistently the force and factor for us in this series."
Rodman rebounded very well (and he deserves a lot of credit for the win), but Kemp killed the Bulls front court in that series and even garnered MVP votes (more than Rodman). So we're going to give the MVP to the guy that just rebounded well but was a complete non factor in putting up points that actually win games. What is this revisionist history.

Re: Players who SHOULD HAVE been Finals MVP
lol@ win shares
1. gasol is 0-12 without kobe in playoff games
2. kobe made pau gasol off his double teams. 75% of paus points came off a initial kobe double team
3. kobe averaged 32 ppg, 7.4 apg, 5.6rpg, 1.4spg, 1.4bpg in the 2009 finals
kobe averaged 29 ppg, 8rpg, 4apg, 2spg, 1bpg, in the 2010 finals
4. kobe was the best defensive player on the lakers ( still in his prime and getting legit 1st team all defensive awards )
5. kobe was the main play maker.
6. kobe was the main scorer
7. kobe was taking all the pressure
8. kobe was the main focal point of the defense
sorry guys. you have a better chance picking on kobes non finals mvp rings in which he ONLY averaged 25ppg, 5rpg, 5apg over 3 playoffs and 29/7/6 in 2001
