Why doesn't Kobe stay with the team, travel with them, provide support on the bench?

I remember some LA fans criticize Nash and asked why he wasn't traveling with the team to games earlier this year.

So why isn't Kobe? He could be a mentor and try to add a winning attitude to some of the these young guys, couldn't he?
