If I was the Celtics, I would have gotten McHale to extend KG's contract before sending away all of my young talent.
there is no security for Boston here. If KG opts out then they basically gave away al jefferson, gerald green, ryan gomes for NOTHING!
do you think Ainge should have gotten that security or are you confident that the deal should have been done regardless and that KG playing along side PP and ray allen will be enough to convince him to re-sign with Boston?

No deal without security. If KG opts out next year, Boston has nothing left!
Among the details that held up completion are ongoing discussions between Garnett's camp and the Celtics on a contract extension and the nearly $5 million of a $6.75 million trade kicker that Garnett would be forced by salary-cap rules to waive if the Celtics don't add any other players to the five already in the deal. But there were indications Monday night, sources said, that the Celtics were close to clearing those hurdles with Garnett and securing the long-term reassurance they sought from the 10-time All-Star.

what i was implying was that if i was ainge, i would have gotten KG to agree to an extension before getting a deal done...but it seems like that is what is holding up this deal.
KG has a player option and without him agreeing to an extension he can walk after this season ends leaving Boston with nothing. i would tell McHale that if he wants this deal to go down, get KG to agree to an extension so there is some security for Boston.
i wouldn't stress over it, if this season the Celtics play up to par and KG see a future with them, he'd sign an extension. If this season fails...why hand out another big contract to a 32yo?
The deal is "in place", but not yet official. Why? Because the Celtics are still working w/ Garnett to get an extension signed, which will likely push his player option back to the end of the 5 year extension.
If you think Boston would actually complete this deal WITHOUT KG agreeing to an extension that voides his player option after next season, then I have some moon rocks to sell you. They're authentic and signed by Marvin the Martian (he frequents the moon).
