Default Replace Dikembe Mutombo with 2010-2011 Dwight Howard in the 2001 Finals

How many more games do the Sixers win/lose in the series?

Shaq's stat line for the series with Mutombo was 33/16/5/3 on 57% shooting.

How much does peak Dwight impact those stats? Essentially, how would peak Dwight do against peak Shaq?

They'd get more offense from their center, but it's AI's team first and foremost so I don't think Howard would get as many post ups or have as high a usage-% as 2011 (so it's a flawed question imo). Keep in mind Magic's team record went down in Howard's best scoring season (from 59 win seasons to 52 wins), his second half of the season was not as great. Not saying there's causation but Howard's season is a bit overrated imo. Atlanta deliberately single covered Howard in the playoffs that year and it worked to knock the Magic out of the first round; Howard put up points but he had 33 turnovers and like 3 assists the entire series. But with AI next to him they'd make a decent combo, still go far in the playoffs. Shaq would still destroy I'm sure.

When Shaq had his most dominant offensive game, the lakers lost.

It took a balanced effort to beat the 76ers, not Shaq going nuts on offensive.

I think we might have won one more game. True, Howard wouldn't have been able to deny Shaq. Let's say for the sake of consistency that Howard wouldn't have defended Shaq any better than Mutombo, and Shaq still got his 33 per game. The difference is that Howard is certainly more offensively adept than Mutombo was, and probably could have generated enough offense to give us an upper hand in one game.

2010-2011 would have probably gotten Phila one more victory or maybe even 2. That was after he worked with Hakeem and developed a little post game. He could do more than dunk by then. On the other end though, he'd probably do worse than Mutumbo being that he's an undersized center even in today's game. He could have have possibly gotten Shaq in foul trouble maybe a game or two I guess.

Nah. Shaq's offense was fine. It was the Lakers defense that picked it up. Game 1 was the ONLY game in the series, LA allowed 100 points.

2001 Lakers are the GOAT playoff team, Dwight would have made no difference

That’s what I’m saying. The team (and especially Shaq) focused more on defense and teamwork after game 1.

Shaq had 44 points and lost, the he had 28 but almost a quad with 8 blocks and 9 assists.

A better question, in my opinion, would be how would AI have done with Hakeem?
