This is true and I agree. The first thing I think of is Jordan, but I still don't think it should be retired throughout the league. You can make the argument for a lot of players. Should we retire those throughout the league just because we think of a certain player first? I don't think so.

Good college starter
Re: Brandon Jennings: #23, #8 and #24 should be retired throughout NBA
I know only of Wayne Gretzky as a pro athlete to have his number retired league-wide. NHL only really did it because his retirement year and number coincided with each other (1999, #99).
I don't support league-wide number retirements anymore. At first I was totally on board. I idolized MJ as a child, as did many others, and until very recently thought this was a great way to honour his career. In my eyes he's the GOAT, but that is a matter of preference. Basketball is about entertainment and MJ was my favourite in that regard.
But if we are retiring numbers for their merit, and impact on the game, the only thing retiring MJ's number will do is erase the history of players who have had an arguably greater impact. (Bill Russell, KAJ, Magic) Sure MJ changed the game, but who's to say that those others didn't do so either? And to a greater degree? (which is arguable, but in essence that's the whole point isn't it?)
That's all besides the point that if this is done, 30 years from now MJ's mystique will be so great, people will be telling stories about him that make Wilt's tall tales look like him just "bending the truth".

Confirmation that those numbers shouldn't be retired

Does Jennings want to be traded to the Lakers?

Not surprising from Jennings considering he's LA born and raised.

Re: Brandon Jennings: #23, #8 and #24 should be retired throughout NBA
if i had to pick between #8 and #24. i'd choose #24 to be retired league wide. cause he used that number during his post shaq career. and thats when he proved he was one of the goats
kobe basically won 4 titles in 2009. then one more in 2010.
before 2009 nobody gave him credit for anything
and i think all the goat decade players should have their # retired
60's - #6
70's - #33
80's - #32
90's - #23
00's - #24

League-wide number retirements are ridiculous. For instance, why should the Pistons retire the number of an enemy whose ass they owned for 6 years?
