I don't know what's more prevalent nowadays: Kobe stans who try to aggrandize Kobe enough to even compare him to Jordan or those who make straw-man arguments of these comparisons. It feels like the latter is what's been spawning most of these comparisons to begin with.

This isn't 2003-2010 where "pundits" and fanbases believed that Kobe had a shot at eclipsing Jordan; the arguments have died out as it became more obvious than ever where Kobe truly stands on an all-time scale and the fact that LeBron garnered much more of the MJ comparisons as he surpassed Kobe as the clear-cut BITW. If anything, Kobe stans have felt so threatened by more modern-age players—LeBron and Tim Duncan, namely—that they actually respect Jordan and try to bracket Kobe into the same class as if to separate him from them.

Only ones who tried arguing Kobe over Jordan were prisoner-of-the-moment sensationalists during his prime or teenagers who were mesmerized by the eye test of Kobe's prime—neither of which will be nearly as prevalent moving into the future, because Kobe's retired and all of posterity won't be able to watch Kobe in his prime regularly.
