Default Kobe is only 676 points away from passing MJ....

After 17 years and watching Kobe his entire career, it's pretty amazing that he's going to pass up the great Michael Jordan on the all time scoring list.

I thought last year was great, when he passed up Wilt freaking Chamberlain.

Very monumental moment this year and it will be the same next year.

    Here's to the Mamba.

Kobe taking 17 years to pass Jordan is kind of like the time 9erempiree needed 5 tries to pass 9th grade algebra.

Yeah, you finally did it. Took you a lot more tries though.

Kobe career games played : 1,239
    Michael career games played: 1,072

He's already 162 games over and still hasn't passed him.

His entire career? I thought you were like 14.

Would have been cooler if he was 666 points away. And closer.

You cannot blame Kobe for being a much more durable player than MJ. Don't fault Kobe because MJ needed two years vacation to recover.

Like I said, you guys think it's bad to play in more games when I think it shows how tough that player is.

it doesn't change anything or anyone's point of view about him.

so it's not any significant event either way.

Hopefully he's ready early in the season. Dwight, you're bitch made if you leave LA.

I know many people won't care he passes up MJ because the bigger picture is being the all time leader.

I know MJ is some guy he has to shat on to get to the top but it's pretty significant in my eyes.

Must be hard to see anything in those kobe jizz covered eyes.

Want to know what's really significant when talking about all-time scorers?

    1. Michael Jordan - 30.1 ppg

    3. LeBron James - 27.6 ppg

Once he passes Jordan, he'd already be the leading scorer for guards. That alone is a huge milestone, IMO.

If he breaks the all-time scoring record, makes the playoffs 2-3 more times, wins 1 more FMVP + championship, and become an all-time playoff leader in points; he'd be easily top five. I don't think a single poster on this board can deny that; especially if he wins 1/2 more 1st team All-NBA honours & 2/3 more all-star selections.

If he simply breaks the all-time record and somehow only averages around 20 PPG for the next 3-4 years; I don't think he'd move any higher on my list. I have him 7th right now I'd say behind Russell, Jordan, Kareem, Magic, Wilt & Bird...MAYBE I'd place him above Bird on my list (at 6th) if he becomes the leading point scorer (and does so efficiently).

    1) Kobe came right out of high school and was a bench player for the first 2-3 years.
    2) Kobe was a 2nd option behind Shaquille for about 8 years; something both Jordan & LeBron would have been too if they joined the Lakers while Shaq was there as rookies.
    3) LeBron & Jordan always had their own team from the get-go.
    4) Kobe (if you take pace into account) has had the most dominant scoring season of all-time in 2006.
    5) 25.5 PPG is still incredible, considering he had to share the ball with Shaq for half of his damn career.

Phil always said he trusted Kobe more and that Kobe was the guy to take shots. MJ had great teammates that can take shots away from MJ. MJ didn't shoot enough to miss.

He also took 2 years off in his prime and 4 years off again before coming back to the Wizards. We don't know what MJ would do if he played consecutive years in his career.
