Humans are not supposed to be as big as him. Which is why so many big men throughout the years suffer through leg/knee/back problems and our bodies were just not meant to carry such a load and to play it so hard.

Its a damn shame if he cannot recover from this. We never really got to see what Yao could really do as a healthy man. He has shown us glimpses but it really sucks as a basketball fan to see a great player go down. One of my fav players and a classy guy. Rockets really have been cursed. Good luck to him

At the moment it is all speculation, so hopefully it is a rumor and not true. I really hope it isn't true, but.....

What do you think of this? I agree with your post by the way.

Again, hopefully it is all speculation. Did they reveal the source?

Looking at it this could be a leak with an intended purpose.

Last week, some GMs commented that they thought that the sudden announcement about Yao's foot was just a sneaky way for him to get out of his summer commitments in China, probably causing them to grow bold in demanding he play this summer.

Perhaps this is leak is in response to that, swinging suspicion the other way ... seriously, only a doctor would know how serious this is, not a journalist speculating. I only heard speculation here ... no facts, but if it is true. I would be so sad for Yao. I've come to love the big guy and appreciated him over the recent years.

Wow. His body was obviously not holding up well, but I thought he had another season or two left in the tank. It would suck to lose one of the last good "big" men left playing in the NBA.

Human biology does not succumb to gravity as you assume. I doubt they have Yao running on the foot, he's probly on crutches and laying up on the hour, with paid experts diagnosing frequently.

    I agree completely.

I wonder if Yao's immune system isn't functioning properly, or if he has some form of osteoperosis...?
    I doubt it's osteoperosis...

He's already broken that foot before, hence the 3 screws and now he fractured it and it won't heal.

He's just so tall and heavy that his feet take a lot of punishment.

I agree with everything AMG said.

He is too big, and playing year round for years have taken its toll.
