    Default Mead

I am starting to get into this. Any experienced mead drinkers have recommendations on the best one?

Mead is made from honey, generally.

there's almost nothing in common except for the fact that an ale of that type is flavored with a bit of honey whereas mead is a wine-like higher-proof drink whose alcohol content comes from fermented honey. an ale is a warm-fermented beer whose alcohol comes from fermented barley mash in most cases. apples and oranges, i.e. totally different.

anyway, i haven't had mead in a long time. my brother brewed some a few years ago but i can't recall it well.

    ...

side note-- i just had one of these the other night. speaking of apples, this was the best commercial cideri've ever had. far better than woodchuck, for example.

Is "mead" a slang word or is it an actual thing?

mead is one of the oldest man-made alcoholic beverages in history.

even before the age of cereal crops and the original product made from them (i.e. beer), if you had some honey you could make mead.

You either don't read or stick to a strict type.

i had it once and it was not very enjoyable.

i think the mead I had was like 20% alcohol, i'm no mean expert, i don't know if that's normal or not.

I would like to thank gigantes for coming the closest to sort of addressing the question.

It varies. I think the one I tried was 12.5%. 20% would be much stronger and as you probably know when it comes to alcohol the stronger the drink the less likely it is to be easy to drink.
