WHO: Beverly Carter
DATE: September 25, 2014
WHERE: Scott, Arkansas
STATUS: body found; suspect in custody
DETAILS: Beverly Carter is one of the most successful realtors in the central Arkansas area. She set up a meeting with a potential buyer at a foreclosed home in Scott, AR on Thursday, September 25. The buyer had not set up an office appointment, but instead met Carter for the first time at the home. She had two scheduled showings that night. Carter's husband Carl began to worry at about 8:00 that night and left his house at 8:30 to look for her at the first house she was scheduled to show at 5:30. She was nowhere to be found, although her Cadillac and purse (which was inside the Cadillac) were still there. The front door to the house was left wide open. Police arrived and could not find any evidence of a struggle. Neighbors did not hear anything unusual, even though the surrounding houses are in close proximity to each other (Scott is generally a rural area). The House is surrounded on three sides by houses and borders a lake in the back. At 1:00 a.m. Carl received three mysterious texts from Beverly's phone, one of which said she was "out drinking with some friends." Carl noted that Beverly is not a drinker. Search parties began looking through the Scott area in the following days. At around 6:20 on Sunday evening it was reported that an arrest warrant was issued for Aaron Lewis in the disappearance of Beverly Carter. What was not immediately revealed was that Lewis had been involved in a car accident earlier that day between 9:30 and 10:00 in the morning in Jacksonville, AR, about 15 miles from Scott. A witness said Lewis was traveling at a high speed and lost control when he went into a curve and hit a concrete culvert. He was taken to a Little Rock hospital and reportedly walked out before undergoing a CAT scan. It was mentioned that police had already identified Lewis as a person of interest in the case, but without a warrant they could not follow him into the hospital. The warrant was served at around 4:30 that day. Lewis, as he mentioned himself on his own Facebook page, is a seven-time convicted felon, most of his charges stemming from theft. He was on parole. At around 10:00 a.m on Monday morning, Lewis was arrested after being spotted by a civilian in front of an e-cig shop in west Little Rock. Lewis is in custody and confessed after being read his Miranda rights that he had kidnapped Carter, but did not specify her location. At 3:30 Tuesday morning, her body was found off of Highway 5 in north Pulaski County. Lewis is due to appear in court Tuesday morning to and will face a capital murder charge.
