A user can find his send messages through Control panel > List New Messages. Then there will be a Private Messages in folder box and you can click the down arrow and find 'sent items'. Those will contain all the PMs crossover sent to someone else

So, if what he said is true, he should be able to have proof of it in PM or in a thread.
