Default How is a rebound worth as much as an assist? Or a block and a steal?

5 Offensive rebounds in one play:

Clearly, a rebound is not worth as much as an assist. Most of the time, no one even contests the defensive rebound and usually the biggest man will just take it down. Or in case above, you can just generate 5 rebounds in one play. Can you get 5 assists in one play?

An assist is a good pass which puts a man in an open and easy position to score. A rebound is something that will happen all the time (When the opponent miss) and someone somewhere has to get that rebound even if not contested at all.

A block is also worth slightly less than a steal as most of the time a block would mean the ball being send away (Either back to the opponent or to your team mates), while a steal would mean the stealer would be in control of the ball.

So I can never equate how a person thinks that a rebound= an assist, a block=steal. It would seem silly, but in a real value context, my guess would be 1.5 rebound = 1 assist, 1.2 block = 1 steals.

Hey tgan, inclinator your mom's are worth the same

No but seriously in fantasy scoring its usually 2 rebounds = 1 assist so 1.5=1 values rebounding more.

I think a rebound is worth more than an assist. A rebound is either a change of possession or a possession kept from the other team. An assist basically comes down to the score keepers discretion.

Without the rebound in some possessions you don't have the assist. It gives a team possession which is important.

"usually the biggest man will just take it down."

    pardon my interruption.

but you can teach and preach to someone all you want, but that doesn't mean you can get someone to convert to your philosophy/lifestyle choice.

That because assists are by design of a play. Rebounds are by size, positioning and by chance(missed shots).

You run a play. You make shot, get assist. Next possession. You're only gonna get one assist per play.

You run a play. You miss shot. Rebound by other team, you play defense. But if you grab offensive rebound, you get a second chance to score.

They're both completely different, equally important.

LeBron23 is right. Control the rebound, control the game. Rebounds give your team more opportunities to score. Rebounds is probably the most important aspect of basketball.
