They only had 2 at the start of the season. Maybe Teague and definitely Korver would not have made the team without Bud doing what he does. Warriors were known as unanimously a top 4 team in the West and Kerr deserves praise for helping them validate that and even surpass expectations but they didn't surpass expectations half as much as the Hawks did. A lot of people didn't even have the Hawks in the playoffs preseason, much less dominating the East and finishing with 60 wins.
Say Warriors win 67 games before the season and people would be surprised but not absolutely shocked.
Say Hawks win 60 games before the season and you get straight laughed out of the building by anyone who thinks they know basketball.

Great take on the race, exactly my sentiments
I think Kerr did a great job, (as well as Kidd, Stevens, and Pop) but what Bud did was just unfathomable coming into the season. NOBODY had the Hawks above a 4 or 5 seed, and almost everyone penciled them in for the classic 6-8 seed range it seems like we've been on forever.
I can't even ever remember a 'treadmill team' like the Hawks taking such a big step forward basically out of nowhere like we did. Like, what the Bucks did was great, but it's not that unusual to see a very young team make strides with a solid coach. Going from awful to decent is pretty common in the Association.
Going from mediocre to winning the conference by 8 games though? That's basically unheard of unless you bring in big time superstar FA's who turn the franchise completely around.

It was either him or Kerr, but in my mind Bud deserved it a bit more... Glad he won.

I think Kerr should have gotten it. Stacked roster or not, what rookie coach wins 67 games? I'm fine with Bud too though.

Going from 8th seed to 1st seed in one season with the same roster, that's pretty comparable to going 67 wins. Well deserved.
