Uconn a preview of NBA's future? Multiple PG lineups?
Clippers (paul, collison) and Suns (bledsoe, dragic) run a 2 PG lineup.
OKC (westbrook, jackson, fisher) runs 3 PG lineup.

positions don't really matter. most aren't really point guards.

I think the smallball trend will last definitely for a few more years, and multi-PG lineups are the next natural evolution. Small teams face a challenge but if all the PGs can shoot, they can be devastating.

Years ago Pat Riley envisioned an entire five man team of "Magics" on the floor at the same time...
alas, he was the first, the last, and the only...

Lawson and Felton. Lawson and Miller.
In college it matters much less because you don't face Kobe or PG every night. There are far fewer "NBA SGs" in college, and most of them are playing the w/f.
It could work in the NBA, tho, if you have two supremely talented basketball players. Ideally the SG would need to be good at defense. Same could be said for other positions.

Re: Uconn a preview of NBA's future? Multiple PG lineups?
College teams have been running 3 guard lineups for years. It's nothing new. Small-ball has obviously been effective lately, see the Heat, but running multiple small guards at once isn't going to be as effective in the NBA as it can be in college. Namely because (nearly) everyone in the NBA is actually good, and can take advantage of a big size disparity. If both your guards are 6'2, somebody's getting posted up every possession.

Miami employs a Rio-Cole lineup as well.

Lakers used (Blake, Nash) combo.
Houston playoff line-up will be (Beverlay, Lin).
Warriors last year used (Jack-Curry).
Small ball is the standard now for every successful team.

7 foot positionless players like Giannis are the future. I wouldn't be surprised if in 50-60 years, every NBA player is 6'11"+ with a 7'3"+ wingspan, with the athleticism, physique, and mental profile (court vision, instincts, etc) to play all 5 positions at an elite level - like Giannis in a few years.
