which statline is "better"?
30 points on 11/25 shooting including 8/12 on 3's
or
30 points on 10/20 shooting with 10/14 free throws?

It's the first one. Das a lotta threes

Re: which statline is "better"?
The second statline is less efficient since it took 2 more possessions than the first one.
But it limits transition baskets and put the other team in foul trouble so I'm inclined to say the second statline is better.

League average shooting is well under 50%. And it'll keep creeping lower as teams prioritize three point shots more and more.

Just add FGA + 0*5 FTA. The lower the result, the better the statline. If the result is the same, I take the one with more FTA because it puts the other team in foul trouble and there are And-1s and fouls on three point shots.

From that information alone, that first game is more epic (8 threes in a game), so unless the latter player had 4 and1s that game, the former is better.
The problem is though, the first game isn't going to be reproduced very often, while LeBron back in 2008-2010 was putting up that second stat line on the regular.

Also 50% is 50%.. every player (including Kobe) strives for that at the very least.

I could make the argument that player #1's misses lead to more offensive rebounding opportunities for his team and thus likely more points.

2nd one. The amount of freethrows probably put the other team in foul trouble and that helps your team out more.

Right, which is exactly why every player strives to shoot better than 50%

Kobe's done a pretty poor job then, since he's never even cracked 47%

It's hard to tell with all the other dynamics thrown in, by connecting 8 3's you help your teammates a lot with floor spacing, and by getting 14 free throws you force your defenders into foul trouble let them be less aggressive which is always great.
But at the end of the day, you have to take the 1st one because it took 2 less possessions to score the same amount of points.

Not true at all. Free throws can be awarded in and1s, 2s, 3s, and technicals.
