"Top 10 Slam Dunk Contest Moments" according to ESPN
Before the live Telecast of the Raptors/Knicks game tonight, ESPN showed their Top 10 Dunk Contest Moments. Here they are
10: Nate Robinson over Spud Webb, 2006
9: Dwight Howard "Superman" throw-in thing, 2008
8: Dee Brown's "Pump up the Reeboks and cover the eyes" dunk, 1991
7: Isaiah Rider between the legs, 1994
6: Jason Richardson going backwards through the legs, 2003
5: Julius Erving from the free-throw line, 1976 (ABA)
4: Spud Webb's 360 (also showed his self-alley oop of the glass for some reason), 1986
3: Dominique Wilkins' windmill (showed his self oop, too), 1988
2: Michael Jordan free-throw line (sowed his "Kiss the Rim" dunk as well), 1988
1: Vince Carter's reverse 360 windmill thing, 2000
What do you think? I think nine and ten don't belong. Give me:
Larry Nance's "Back to Front Windmill", 1984
Orlando Woolridge going around the back and through the legs, 1985.

Yeah, that's pretty common knowledge. They always have to get the flavour of the month in there somewhere amongst the greats. That really pisses me off.

Why should 9 not be on there? It was only talked about , everyday for a year until 2009 ASG.

Because the only thing preventing it being a finger-roll was that his palm facing the floor.

I like Dee Brown's dunk being included - people forget that he had some seriously sick dunks that contest. The man had some amazing technical dunking skill and flair. He and Kemp put together an awesome show.
Vince's first dunk of the 2000 contest as number 1, I'm not arguing with. He bascially came out and said "this contest is over" with his first jam. I never get tired of watching that dunk and listening to the crowd reaction:

Josh Smith has technically done it before, Dwight has tried it - but no one can do it the way Vince did.

Michael Jordan shouldn't be even on that list if they are not going to even consider Brent Barry's free throw line dunk. It was further than Mike's.

There's no arguing Vince's dunk. Ridicules!

Carter's dunk may very well be the most impressive...
but they labeled this list "top moments"...
and the top slam dunk contest moment hands down is the Jordan free throw line dunk...
when I was growing up every single kid I knew had a poster of that dunk on their wall...
there was no that didn't know about that dunk...even mothers that don't watch the NBA knew about that dunk...
plus the dunk contest was 100x more popular back then...today it is an after thought...
2 should be Webb IMO
3 should be Domonique
4 should be Dr. J
then throw in Carter at 5
JMO...based on how popular they were

I don't mean to throw this off course or anything, but am I the only one that hates that pretty much every dunk is some sort of self-lob these days? Unless you want to "jump over a guy." I realize it makes for some solid photos, but you're just spreading your legs, it's not like you actually high jumped 6+ feet. I'd be a lot cooler with it if a lot of those didn't seem like the guy always plants off the jumpee for added boost. What happened to the air ballet? I thought those VC and Jason Richardson winning years were just the cusp of a whole new generation of creative freakish athleticism, now it's just a gimmick.

Agree completely with everything you just wrote, especially the last part. As for self lobs, my favourite is still this:
