Default is there a genius-level NBA player?

I'm not talking about basketball-wise. The NFL has John Urschel who just published a report in the Journal of Computational Mathematics titled "A Cascadic Multigrid Algorithm for Computing the Fiedler Vector of Graph Laplacians" which had things in it like:

We know Jeremy Lin is from Harvard but has he published any papers?

Bird is genius in non basketball sense as well, but he didnt publish anything AFAIK (not like only geniuses publish - any smart person can accomplish it, if he wants).

Rondo got his undergrads in mathematics I am pretty sure, you can tell he is smart by looking at his eyes and its why he is considered hard to coach because generally noone is smarter than him therefore he doesn't need it.

apparently its a method of calculating the second lowest eigenvalue, seems arbitrary as **** tbh but then again a lot of things published in maths is purely theoretical and has no practical purpose. Its just a way at arriving at a particular eigenvalue of an eigenvector. Don't get me wrong though, u gotta be smart as **** to do that, its just useless.

I think it's safe to say no one in the NBA is smart as John Urschel. Hell, no one in the NFL, MLB, etc. This guy is unique. He only enjoys playing chess, reading mathematics, doing research, and apparently hitting people.

This guy might be the smartest sports player in professional sports history. I'm talking about IQ smart. I doubt anyone, in pro sports, could really perform better than him on an IQ test.

Jeremy Lin is probably #1 among NBAers, but probably still not at a strictly genius level, although Harvard doesn't offer sport scholarships. This football guy is an exception among sportsmen.

Any bother to suggest the importance of the above? If it isn't important, then it's not really impressive. It's just playing around with numbers and how things relate in a closed system. Most academic publications are filled with this kind of pointless fluff, but it doesn't make them any more important, or any less the arbitrary intellectual *********ion of a guy trying to impress his peers with pointless complexities and jargon that seems so prevalent in these sorts of publication.
