In the comment section the people that seem to be taking it the hardest are the religious people. I found that interesting.

Meh, I've no sympathy for these people, play with fire, you'll get burned...literally.
Mexico has a problem with criminal organizations stealing gas from pipelines, the pipeline was leaking, obviously criminals had made a hole in it and these idiots made the hole even bigger to where it was gushing like a fountain. These are the kinds of people who would loot stores if a natural disaster occurred...they are basically thieves.
Reading facebook, most of MX feel no sympathy for these lowlifes.

The government collects money from taxpayers to run its fuel industry, then surprise surprise, cartels find easy access for thieving the product. People in the government dont give a shit, it isnt their money. Some of em probably even tip off the cartels where the easiest places to do this are in exchange for a kickback.
An enterprise run by people who invested their own money would have far more incentive to protect their inventory from crooks. They would aggressively try to stop it, and if they couldnt, it’s their own money that’s lost.
In this case, taxpayers foot the bill for thieves, and politicians have no reason to give a shit.
Your whole economic outlook got SHREDDED by this story. And ironically you showed up in the thread uninformed and inadvertently... ahem... poured gas on the fire

Well that’s good (or at least better) but it’s still a time tested economic fact that people are much less careful with other peoples money than with their own. This includes governments. It’s just how society works.
Tpols rushed in to bash the free market concept, not realizing this was a textbook example of how easily assets owned by big government are exploited/corrupted.
