The best basketball cities in the NBA......
I am ranking them based on how the NBA is in each vs. other major sports...franchise history...and crowd passion etc.
1. LA
Now before you talk about the Hollywood vibe etc. that sits on the floor seats.
The Lakers have many passionate fans in the upper levels. And the Lakers are the hottest ticket in town that just happens to be the 2nd biggest market in the USA. Lakers have a storied franchise History in LA and have constantly been a great product to watch through out the years.
I'll add this for the Clippers as well now....Blake Griffen is a beast and has a great future.
2. New York
The Mecca of basketball. This only gives them the number 2 spot.
All the best players love playing at Madison Square. Not the best franchise history but NY loves their Knicks. And now that the Nets are coming to Brooklyn with their rich Russian owner...sky's the limit.
3. Chicago
Jordan...enough said.
4. Boston
I would rank them higher Boston is a great sports town...but to me it is a Red Sox and Pats town first. Even though the Celtics have a richer history then both of those other franchises. 9 championships in a row...17 in all. All the great players that played there.
5. S.A.
They broke in the top 5 as the only small market team. Rich B-ball history in the lone star state. The Spurs have been doing it since the ABA days. Duncan has brought four rings to this franchise and at the moment still has them as contenders for another run.
6. Philly
7. Golden State (Bay Area)
8. Indianapolis (Hoosier State!)
9. Salt Lake City
10. Sacramento

L.A does not have the best fans get out of here, they are quiet as hell. Boston Celtics are hands down first. I went to a close game vs Orlando Magic last year, and the crowd was so loud the frigging walls were shaking.

Re: The best basketball cities in the NBA......
List is ok until you mention San Antonio, or having LA as number 1. No one should ever be ranked over NYC. And that is known. Do they have a great team in the Spurs? Sure. But it still isn't a basketball city. And when someone says that, I think it extends way past just how good or passionate some NBA fans are ... it's about basketball talent from the region, how many people play it, etc.
1) New York
2) Chicago
3) LA
4) Philly
5) Boston / Indiana

Re: The best basketball cities in the NBA......
As much as I'd like us to be #1, there's simply no way we breed the ballers NYC, Philly, and Chicago do. Heck the east coast in general.

I used to live in LA and I'v been to a lot of Lakers games and its embarrasingly quiet. Best I would say is probably Boston.

And Wilt Chamberlain ... but I mean LA or the California region more so than Hollywood has produced some great talents.
Paul Pierce, Baron Davis ... just to name a couple.
But yeah, no way is LA ranked as the number 1 basketball city. Talk about ignorance.
