Why do you need to do this? Its basically a useless skill.

    i never use it.

But let go of the ball before you slap, just like a normal layup. Then tap the board?

What is the point of slapping the backboard on a layup?

A lot players do it all the time. I like how it sound esp. when you slap on a metal board, set a bold statement when you go by someone for a layup.

: Most of the people I play with don't do it, but I've seen some particular people doing it a lot (which I won't go into). If you enjoy it, then go for it.

Even though I've never tried it, what JMEWLS said makes sense - release the ball like a normal layup and then slap the board. Though personally I think it just highlights the fact they aren't able to dunk

not really, somtimes it just happens naturally with me, if your going fast and you get up when you let go of ur layup rather than pullin ur hand down real fast or wackin the back of ur hand off the net just flip ur hand and tap it.. it looks ugly if you can only get the sponge, but me i get around the box when i do it..

this is good when your gettin chased on a fast break since once u get the ball off the glass anyone that touches it on the way down it counts as a goaltend, im 5'4 right now but i remember some kid tried to do a normal layup in a game he was 5"10 or so i pinned him, so what im sayin is its easier to bring the ball for a board tap cuz it gets it there faster (less distance between the release and the backboard or w/e) and it also keeps your body between you and your man right to the rim.

but once you get it good. instead of tappin just throw it down twards ur head it looks sick in a game

its suppose to be a way to make it difficult to block your shot when doing a lay up

watch where ur playin thou n highschool we played this team in a old gym cause in a previous game someone shattered the backboard and tore down the rim with a dunk. no onee had played in this gym 4 a couple years and the foam pad was falling off and i sliced my hand open on the metal frame. and no joke the backboard on the other end of the court, a piece ot the glass was missing and in its place was a piece of plywood.

If you slam the board with the ball in your hand, it will probably miss. Any shot can be made with practice, though. I suggest releasing it on a high spin, then while it is still airborne, slap it.
