Why are European NBA players more well spoken than American players?
Watching the Grantland interviews with Simmons.
Im stunned how much more interesting it was to listen to Dirk Nowitzki than it was listening to Kevin Durant.
Usually European players in other sports are boring as hell. But the Euro NBA players. Nowitzki, Parker, Gasol brothers, Kobe Bryant(grew up in Europe) etc. sound like a intelligent lot.

I can't speak for all of them, but a lot of other countries sports bodies put them through media training and they are generally more mature as they haven't grown up in a culture that worships talented young basketballers.

Dirk is like 10 years older than durant. Dirk was so shy he barely talked at that age.
Durant's interview was fine. He was just stupid and called himself the servant

Because with the exception of Kobe, none of the Euro players you mentioned were black.

He mentioned two black players, and three white players.
They probably speak the language more formally, because they learned it as second language, and/or didn't grow up hearing as much slang. In addition to that, many European countries also have better public school systems than the U.S.

Look at Giannis Antetokonumpo's blog posts. They are likely translated (not sure on this) but even if so the source material in Greek is pretty damn well written.

This. That said, when it comes to other European players, the fact a lot of them played professionally before coming over to the NBA does play a role.

Why would it be translated? His brother writes all his own stuff on his blogs and twitter and it's usually in almost perfect English.
You do realize that English is just a basic thing to learn in Greece right? Just the same as Greek is? You learn Greek and English as a basic standard.
So learning a THIRD language, not a second language, is the additional educational language.
So people would know Greek and English, then they would choose a third language to learn, like usually something like Italian.

further to this studies have shown people who are taught two languages (like most european countries do) while growing up tend to be more intelligent and articulate when they are older. It also makes it far easier for them to learn a third language.

Re: Why are European NBA players more well spoken than American players?
People in this area I live in have spoken English all their lives incorrectly while someone who learned it as a second language learned the proper way to speak it and thus speaks it better.

I was shocked at how badly Michael Jordan spoke in college. Seriously, he sounded like mushmouth from the cosby show cartoon.
