Default Question about Jordan on defense.

Quick question. I know he was a godly onball defender and killer in the passing lanes. Does anybody know of a superstar that he completely shut down in a series that was taller and bigger than him? I know he did it to the other SGs in his era, but they were smaller than him. Not trying to start anything. I just need a name. LEBRON'S NAME SHOULD NOT COME UP IN THIS THREAD.

but guards matchup with guards. It's not MJ's fault he's bigger than most of the other SGs of his era. Isn't that what they always say about other athletic guys? "you shouldn't be penalized for being athletic and freakish because it's part of basketball."

Then why did you mention his name, and put it in the thread yourself?

Anyway, I know MJ guarded Magic a little, but he didn't shut him down. I'm a huge Bulls fan, but didn't watch much until about '96

WTF are you talking about? I know he defended SFs from time to time. I remember seeing it. Who's penalizing him? If you don't know then just say you don't know bro.

I mentioned his name to cover all the bases. I don't want his stans and his haters turning this into a thread about him.

I know MJ defended some SFs as well, I just can't recall if he shut them down or not.

....

relax buddy.

Jordan's biggest struggle in defense was being posted up. Magic, Clyde, and Penny all outplayed him in terms of post ups. But then again, they were bigger than he was and bigger guys always have the advantage in the post. But Jordan was still an exceptional ball defender and the best of his era at roaming the passing lanes.

He couldn't guard 91' Magic, he was a 1 through 5 player so that includes SF.

I'm relaxed. I was asking WTF you were talking about from your first comment. It had nothing to do with the question I asked.

Were there any bigger than him that he locked up though? Or who were the superstars that were his size that he locked up then? I didn't know Jordan before Scottie Pippen.

I glanced over the majority of teams during the 87-88 season, when MJ won DPOY.

I'd say the average height for SGs by that point was probably around 6'5. Most SGs seem to be in the 6'4-6'6 range with some below and some above.
