Flawed stat is flawed.
So if the score is tied, a game winning shot in Game 7 of the Finals isn't clutch. Got it

Pretty lazy on the part of the researchers. stats.nba.com goes back to 96-97 (first season for which play-by-play data exists). Not many players still in the league from back then, but it would've taken them 5-10 more minutes.

I sorta agree, but sorta disagree. It's clutch IMO, but I do think do-or-die shots, where you're down, and NEED to make a shot have more value than those to go ahead from a tie. Miss? You still have an OT period. Would be interesting to see this stat covering only situations in which you're down one possession.

Why did you bring up 'Kobetards?' We're talking about an obscure stat.

I can agree with this for the following reason:

Situational, then. Mostly, not that clutch. Big playoff games? Much more clutch.

Why 3? Why not 4 or 5 or 6.
What was the reasons for choosing 3?
Shooting for the tie or lead? So if they were down 3 and made a 2 it doesn't count towards this?
Because it's essentially a one possession game at that point and teams often give up free 2's when they are up 3 and that would skew the numbers needlessly.
Obviously it's not the end all be all, but 30 seconds left in one possession games seems like a really good indicator of super clutch situations. I'd love to see ft shooting and stuff like that as well.

So if you shoot a 2, while down 3, it apparently isn't being counted in this stat.. Because you aren't shooting for the lead or for the tie.
Exactly....
Because teams often give up two's there freely.
What is so hard about this to understand? That would be bad information fed into the system.

Kobe Bryant. Period.
He has the balls and intestinal fortitude to make shit happen. No deferring. No fear.
He, MJ, and Bird are the 3 best clutch players of all time.
