Tristan Thompson is a much better fit for the Cavs than Love
Starting Love would have actually made the Cavs a worse team, than they are with Thompson.
I am not say Thompson is a better player in absolute terms, but the stuff he brings to the Cavs is more needed by the Cavs than what Love brings.
Love's volume scoring would make him more valuable to a lot of teams, but not a the cavs.
Thompson's defense is much better and Thompson is the better rebounder.
If both come back next year, Thompson should start

There are several problems with this. First off, with TT at PF there is no spacing and they are not nearly as good offensively.
But most importantly, TT is an energy player. He can't play more than ~32 min without losing efficacy. He played the whole 4th, didn't get a single off reb, GS outrebounded them by a massive amount, etc.

The Cavs starting lineup is much better with Love in. Mozgov and Thristain Thompson can be good, but offensively they both cant score and clog the lane. TT is a hustler not a starter.
That said there are times when they are better off with mixing it up with versalitity. Which is why Love is valuable.

TT should play 25 mins a game. He can't play 35+ mins.
