Titles are overrated
Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
I could see that team beating some modern star studded teams off ball movement and toughness in a team USA losing games kinda way.
And its known Jerry Lucas was something of a freak mentally. Perhaps not in IQ or whatever....but he did memory tricks and such.

Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
Stuff like that could never happen today. The refs would call a taunting technical or the NBA would outlaw it after the game.

Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
Haha, that sounded ridiculous but what works, works.
Sidenote, I was just reading an account on Lucas about 45 minutes ago from Foul!:
Around the NBA, many blacks believe that Lucas has been overrated by coaches and the press because he is white. They claim that referees help him on defense by ignoring his obvious roughing. They think some official scorers pad his rebound totals to justify his image as a star - a white star.
I'm not saying that's the word of truth or anything - just an interesting contradiction from the little I know about Lucas in the first place.

Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
My all-time favorite team!! Clyde & DeBusschere, The Captain & Dollar Bill... P Jax with his long lanky arms and brutal elbows.... great , great team that dominated the hoops world for years. They'd be in the Finals any year, any decade, any era. If Willis had just his legs stand up they'd have won won won !!!

Ahh...
at about the 33 minute mark
"The Lucas Layup"
I have long maintained that Lucas would have been a great 3pt shooter. He was absolutely the best long range shooter of his era.
BTW, this is a great presentation.

Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
Jerry Lucas with his jedi-memory tricks.
Phil Jackson and his zen ways.
Did those Knicks also have Bill Bradley? He was pretty brilliant, too, if I remember correctly. Went on to be a senator or something?
Probably the smartest team of all time.

Re: Jerry Lucas and the early 70's knicks where insanely brilliant:
Bradley went to Princeton and went on to be a Rhodes Scholar and senator. Also ran for president.
